Roar reclaim W-League championship

The final whistle sees Brisbane celebrate a second championship

Led by the player of the match Tameka Butt, the Brisbane Roar have reclaimed the Westfield W-League title courtesy of a hard-fought 2-1 win over Sydney FC at Campbelltown Stadium. For the Roar, it was sweet revenge for last season’s grand final loss to the same team, and it makes them the first team to win two W-League championships. (more…)

Tina Ellertson, Atlanta Beat terminate contract, magicTalk signs three more players

Tina Ellertson and the Atlanta Beat have mutually terminated their contract, while magicTalk SC signed Megan Schnur, Sarah Huffman, and Australian Lisa DeVanna, who has played the past two years with the club formerly known as the Washington Freedom. In other WPS news, the league officially announced that the Atlanta Beat signed Cat Whitehill and that Sky Blue FC has signed Swedish international Therese Sjögran, who join the team in Turkey next month. Sydney FC, Brisbane Roar set for Saturday’s Westfield W-League Grand Final

Australia’s best female footballers will be on display this weekend when two of the Westfield W-League’s powerhouse clubs meet again in the grand final.  Defending champions Sydney FC will face off against Season One champions Brisbane Roar this Saturday at Campbelltown Stadium. (more…)

Reigning Westfield W-League champions Sydney FC have earned the right to defend their title following a clinical 5-1 win Sunday over the Melbourne Victory at Campbelltown Stadium.  The victory sets up a mouth-watering grand final replay between Sydney and semifinal one winners Brisbane Roar on Saturday, Feb. 12. It took a drama filled penalty shootout but the Brisbane Roar have qualified for the 2010/11 Westfield W-League Grand Final after defeating Canberra United 4-2 (pen) at Ballymore Stadium. For the Roar, it will be their third appearance in the decider, which is a superb effort considering the League has only had the three seasons. (more…)


Alex Singer heading to Dalsjöfors after Australian W-League season

Alex Singer, a defender for Perth Glory of the Westfield W-League in Australia, is off to Sweden after the W-League season. She will play for Dalsjöfors of Damallsvenskan. Singer previously played in Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) for the Washington Freedom where she made 20 appearances (13 starts) in two seasons. (more…)
