WPS update: rosters change, preseason games continue

Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) preseason is in full swing, and on Monday, teams made a number of roster moves. On a day that was supposed to cut rosters down to 28, some teams added players from their initial preseason rosters that were announced back on March 1. In other WPS news, magicJack made its preseason debut Tuesday, and Sky Blue FC landed in Turkey for the Alanya Women’s Tournament of Champions. (more…)

Tina Ellertson, Atlanta Beat terminate contract, magicTalk signs three more players

Tina Ellertson and the Atlanta Beat have mutually terminated their contract, while magicTalk SC signed Megan Schnur, Sarah Huffman, and Australian Lisa DeVanna, who has played the past two years with the club formerly known as the Washington Freedom. In other WPS news, the league officially announced that the Atlanta Beat signed Cat Whitehill and that Sky Blue FC has signed Swedish international Therese Sjögran, who join the team in Turkey next month. U.S. falls to Sweden, Canada comes back from two goals down to beat China

The U.S. Women’s National Team suffered its second loss in its last five games, this time falling to Sweden, 2-1, to open the Four Nations Tournament in Chongqing, China. In the second game of the tournament, Canada fell behind 2-0 in the 36th minute, but came back to beat China, 3-2, on a stoppage-time goal by Christine Sinclair. (more…)

Therese Sjögran will join Sky Blue FC during exhibition tournament in Turkey

Sky Blue FC will head to Turkey in March to play in a four-team exhibition tournament. The WPS club will face LdB FC Malmö of Damallsvenskan, Russian club FK Energiya, and Fortuna Hjørring from Denmark. At the tournament, LdB FC Malmö will officially loan out Therese Sjögran to Sky Blue FC, according to the Swedish club. (more…)

LdB FC Malmö midfielder Therese Sjögran signs with Sky Blue FC

Therese Sjögran has signed to play for Sky Blue FC of Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS). Sjögran will be out on loan from Swedish club LdB FC Malmö, the 2010 Damallsvenskan champions. Sjögran has played for LdB FC Malmö since 2001 and has 63 goals in more than 200 appearances with the club. A member of the Swedish National Team since 1997, Sjögran has more than 200 caps and 18 goals for Sweden. (more…)
