U.S. wins Algarve Cup, Canada claims Cyprus Cup title

The U.S. Women’s National Team won its eighth Algarve Cup title with a 4-2, come-from-behind win over Iceland, while the Canadian Women’s National Team knocked off Holland, 2-1 in overtime, to win its third Cyprus Cup in the last four years. Japan and France finished in third place at Algarve and Cyprus, respectively. (more…)

Alyssa Naeher talks Algarve Cup: “I like the team’s chances”

Alyssa Naeher’s been on the big stage before. The 22-year-old Boston Breakers keeper won the Golden Glove for the world champion U-20 Women’s National Team at the 2008 Women’s World Cup. Now, Naeher has taken her game to another level. She’s currently in Portugal at her first Algarve Cup with the full U.S. Women’s National Team. (more…)


More countries release their rosters for Algarve Cup

A number of teams that are competing in the Algarve Cup in Portugal have announced their rosters. The U.S. roster was released last week, while Sweden and Finland both unveiled their rosters Tuesday. Other teams that have their rosters set include Norway, Denmark, Portugal, and Wales. Romanian club Cluj announced that nearly its entire starting 11 will play for Romania in Portugal. (more…)


Brazil becomes first Women’s Futsal World Cup champions

Brazil beat Portugal 5-1 to become the first Women’s Futsal World Cup champions in last Saturday’s final. A fast-paced indoor version of soccer, futsal is tremendously popular in some of the most advanced soccer nations of the world.  FIFA has had an organized Men’s Futsal World Cup since 1989. (more…)
