Another historic day at Algarve and Cyprus cups

In the second day of the Cyprus Cup, Scotland defeated England for the first time since 1977, scoring a 2-0 win on goals by Arsenal’s Kim Little and Jennifer Beattie. Keeper Shannon Lynn (Hibernian) earned the shutout for Scotland. Canadian keeper Stephanie Labbe (Pitea) picked up her fourth career shutout and remains unbeaten in six starts and Jonelle Filigno scored off an assist from Christine Sinclair (WNY Flash) to give Canada a 1-0 win over Italy. U.S. holds off Canada, China tops Sweden in the second day of the Four Nations Tournament

The highly anticipated match between the U.S. and Canada at the Four Nations Tournament in Chongqing, China turned out to be a classic. The U.S. held off a surge by Canada in the final four minutes of stoppage time to hang on for the 2-1 win. Nicole Barnhart made a great save on a shot in the final seconds by Christine Sinclair to preserve the win. (more…)


Christen Press: chance to play in WPS has been “a long time coming”

Stanford forward Christen Press, projected to be a top three pick in Friday’s WPS Draft, talked about taking the next step to the professional level. Calling from the Missouri Athletic Club last Friday, where she won the MAC Hermann Trophy, Press said: “I’m very excited. It’s been a long time coming.” (more…)
