Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar earn right to host semifinals

With their victories over the weekend, both Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar qualified for the W-League semifinals. Sydney FC, the 2010 W-League champions, beat Canberra United, 3-0, this weekend, getting two own goals and a goal from Kyah Simon. Brisbane Roar played to a scoreless draw with the Newcastle Jets. Newcastle keeper Allison Lipsher picked up the shutout in goal, and prevented the Roar from winning the Premiership. (more…)


Brisbane opens 2011 with huge win over Sydney in W-League action

Brisbane Roar got a goal in the 50th minute from Joanne Burgess Saturday at Campbelltown Stadium, and it held up as the Roar beat Sydney FC for the first time in more than two years. The win moves Brisbane four points clear of second-place Sydney in the Westfield W-League (Australia). (more…)

Brisbane Roar look to snap Sydney FC curse and to remain in first place in Australia’s W-League

The two teams that met in last year’s W-League Grand Final and then in round one of this year’s W-League season, will face each other Saturday, Jan. 1, in a game that will give one team a significant upper hand heading into the final four weeks of the 2010/11 season. The Brisbane Roar look to retain their spot at the top of the table, while second-place Sydney FC needs only a draw to pull level with the Roar. (more…)
