WPS Roster Report for Week 7

Several teams were without their national team players last week, but for the most part, all of those players return for what could be the next to last WPS game they play prior to heading off to the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany. The U.S. Women’s National team beat Japan twice this past week, but lost Lindsay Tarpley to an ACL injury. Tarpley will miss the World Cup and the remainder of the WPS season with magicJack. Other notables on the injured list this week: Heather Mitts (Atlanta) and Christie Rampone (magicJack). (more…)

Two first-half goals seal U.S. victory over Japan, but Americans lose Tarpley to ACL injury

Abby Wambach redirected a service from Ali Krieger off a set piece, and Amy Rodriguez put the finishing touches on a great buildup by Heather O’Reilly and Wambach to give the U.S. all it needed to defeat Japan, 2-0, Saturday night in Columbus, Ohio. But, unfortunately the U.S. was dealt a major blow as midfielder Lindsay Tarpley, who came on as a sub in the second half, tore her ACL in her right knee and will miss the 2011 Women’s World Cup.  (more…)


Another historic day at Algarve and Cyprus cups

In the second day of the Cyprus Cup, Scotland defeated England for the first time since 1977, scoring a 2-0 win on goals by Arsenal’s Kim Little and Jennifer Beattie. Keeper Shannon Lynn (Hibernian) earned the shutout for Scotland. Canadian keeper Stephanie Labbe (Pitea) picked up her fourth career shutout and remains unbeaten in six starts and Jonelle Filigno scored off an assist from Christine Sinclair (WNY Flash) to give Canada a 1-0 win over Italy. WPS officially announces a number of magicTalk SC signings

After nearly two months of speculation and rumors as to which players would end up on magicTalk SC/Washington Freedom, Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) officially announced a number of signings Thursday and Friday. Shannon Boxx, Marian Dalmy, Ella Masar, Rebecca Moros, Christie Rampone, Lindsay Tarpley, and Kacey White have all signed with magicTalk SC. (more…)


Sources: Hope Solo joins magicTalk SC

Former Saint Louis Athletica and Atlanta Beat keeper Hope Solo will soon be reunited with some of her teammates from the U.S. Women’s National Team, joining Abby Wambach, Christie Rampone, Lindsay Tarpley, and Shannon Boxx, on the team formerly known as the Washington Freedom, according to sources close to the league. U.S. holds off Canada, China tops Sweden in the second day of the Four Nations Tournament

The highly anticipated match between the U.S. and Canada at the Four Nations Tournament in Chongqing, China turned out to be a classic. The U.S. held off a surge by Canada in the final four minutes of stoppage time to hang on for the 2-1 win. Nicole Barnhart made a great save on a shot in the final seconds by Christine Sinclair to preserve the win. (more…)
