Damallsvenskan champions LdB Malmö settle for draw with KIF Örebro

Defending Swedish champions LdB Malmö opened up its 2011 Damallsvenskan season Sunday with a 1-1 draw against KIF Örebro at Behrn Arena in Örebro. After falling behind, 1-0, in the 24th minute on a goal by Örebro forward Sara Michael, Malmö needed a second-half strike to pull level and avoid defeat. Midfielder Nilla Fisher’s goal in the 61st minute tied the game for Malmö, salvaging the draw. The last time these teams met was in last year’s Super Cup, which Malmö won, 2-1, to claim the title of the champions of Sweden. (more…)

England upsets the U.S., Sweden tips Canada

The U.S. Women’s National Team had its 52-game unbeaten streak in friendly matches snapped Saturday night in East London as England, ranked 10th in the FIFA World Rankings, beat the No. 1 team in the world, 2-1. And in Italy on Saturday, Sweden beat Canada, 1-0, on an early goal by Charlotte Rohlin. (more…)


Another historic day at Algarve and Cyprus cups

In the second day of the Cyprus Cup, Scotland defeated England for the first time since 1977, scoring a 2-0 win on goals by Arsenal’s Kim Little and Jennifer Beattie. Keeper Shannon Lynn (Hibernian) earned the shutout for Scotland. Canadian keeper Stephanie Labbe (Pitea) picked up her fourth career shutout and remains unbeaten in six starts and Jonelle Filigno scored off an assist from Christine Sinclair (WNY Flash) to give Canada a 1-0 win over Italy. Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC wins Internationales Frauen-Hallenfußball-Turnier um den Pokal der Sparkasse Bielefeld

Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC won the Internationales Frauen-Hallenfußball-Turnier um den Pokal der Sparkasse Bielefeld over the weekend. The international indoor tournament held in Bielefeld, Germany featured seven teams from four countries, and Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC defeated FCR Duisburg  of Germany, 5-0, in the deciding match.
