Analisa Marquez signs with the Atlanta Beat

In less than 10 months, Analisa Marquez has been part of three Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) organizations. Monday, she officially signed with her third team, the Atlanta Beat. The former Boston Breakers defender, who started the 2011 preseason with the Western New York Flash, landed in Atlanta on a trial basis. Four days later, the team signed the former University of Arizona star. (more…)

Tina Ellertson, Atlanta Beat terminate contract, magicTalk signs three more players

Tina Ellertson and the Atlanta Beat have mutually terminated their contract, while magicTalk SC signed Megan Schnur, Sarah Huffman, and Australian Lisa DeVanna, who has played the past two years with the club formerly known as the Washington Freedom. In other WPS news, the league officially announced that the Atlanta Beat signed Cat Whitehill and that Sky Blue FC has signed Swedish international Therese Sjögran, who join the team in Turkey next month. Extras from December issue: Monica Jorge talks more about Portuguese American players

Monica Jorge, the head coach of the Portugal Women’s National Team, talked about having players of Portuguese descent who live in the U.S. and Canada in her program. One of those players is Kimberly Brandão, who played last year for the Buffalo Flash of the W-League. “They bring more professionalism, more competitiveness to our group,” Jorge said. (more…)
