Furthering women's soccer like no magazine has done before

Carrie Dew signs with Sky Blue FC

Former FC Gold Pride midfielder/defender Carrie Dew has signed with Sky Blue FC. The 24-year-old played two seasons for the 2010 Women’s Professional Soccer champions. Dew was the 12th overall pick of the 2009 WPS Draft.

Dew is the latest in a number of offseason signings by the 2009 WPS champions. Last Thursday, Sky Blue FC claimed former Washington Freedom defender Kristi Eveland off waivers.

“I am thrilled to have an opportunity to play in the WPS again in 2011,” Dew said. “I have heard great things about Jim Gabarra and the Sky Blue organization and am eager to get started. They have put together an exciting and talented roster this offseason that I am proud to be a part of.”

This season with FC Gold Pride, Dew made 15 appearances (11 starts) and had one goal and one assist. She has played on the U.S. U-17, U-20, and U-23 teams and played her college soccer at the University of Notre Dame from 2005-2008.

This offseason, in addition to Dew and Eveland, Sky Blue FC signed former Chicago Red Stars forward Casey Noguiera, former Washington Freedom midfielder Allie Long, former Atlanta Beat and Saint Louis Athletica midfielder Carolyn Blank, and English international defender and former Red Star Anita Asante. The club also made a trade with the Atlanta Beat to acquire English international forward Eniola Aluko, midfielder Angie Kerr, and the number one pick in the 2010 WPS Draft, midfielder Tobin Heath. Another big offseason move came last month when the team announced that Swedish international Therese Sjögran will join Sky Blue FC on loan.

Congrats Carrie! I’ve enjoyed watching your aggressive playing style in the past and look forward to watching a long carrier flourish. Please keep us posted.
