WPSL Week in Review: Rain score 14 in two games, young FC St. George side tops Utah

As the opening month of the WPSL came to a close this Memorial Day weekend, the league saw competition increase greatly in the Big Sky and East-Mid-Atlantic conferences. Although a majority of the league took a hiatus this past weekend to celebrate the holiday, or more likely to get a few more training sessions in before the opening weekend of June, other teams used this weekend as an opportunity for double headers to get a leg up on the competition. WPSL Week in Review: Season debuts and multi-goal games highlight weekend

In the second weekend of WPSL play, more than 25 games were played, which included the debut of some of the season’s newest teams, a few out of conference games, and the openers for Big Sky North and Sunshine Conference, the second week of action left plenty of room for surprises, upsets, and triumphs for all WPSL teams. Former FC Gold Pride midfielder Rosie Tantillo signs with San Diego SeaLions

On Thursday, the San Diego SeaLions of the WPSL Pacific Conference announced the signing of former FC Gold Pride (WPS) midfielder Rosie Tantillo. Tantillo joins the SeaLions after helping lead her former club to the WPS Championship in 2010. Tantillo has also gained experience playing for the Pali Blues and Buffalo Flash in the W-League along with the U-21 and U-23 Women’s National Teams. (more…)


Former Atlanta Beat players Kristina Larsen and Vendula Strnadova find new home

On Tuesday, Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) announced that the Atlanta Beat had released forward Kristina Larsen and midfielder Vendula Strnadova. Late Wednesday night, Orange County Waves General Manager Terry Foley confirmed that the Waves, of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL), signed both Larsen and Strnadova. (more…)


WPSL kicks off 15th season

The largest women’s soccer league in the world, the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL), kicked off its 15th season this weekend. With 65 teams spanning five divisions across the entire United States, the WPSL looks to have one of its most entertaining seasons since its establishment in 1998. The addition of nine extremely competitive teams such as the Bay Area Breeze, West Coast Wildkatz, F.C Bucks, Minnesota Kings, Chicago Red Stars, Albany Alleycats, F.C Dallas, Arkansas Comets and Tampa Bay Hellenic serves to heighten the already narrow race for the championship in each division. Australian, Spanish internationals and number of locals highlight Los Al Vikings roster

Grace Gill and Snez Veljanovska, coming off successful seasons in the Australian W-League, Patricia Carrion Salinas of Roldan FSF in Spain, and a handful of players from the Los Angeles area make up a large portion of the Los Al Vikings, the newest entry in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL). The Los Al Vikings will play in the Pacific-South Conference with Ajax, the Claremont Stars, Los Angeles Premier FC, the Orange County Waves, and the San Diego SeaLions. They open the season May 21 against the San Francisco Nighthawks. (more…)


Chicago Red Stars are back, will play in WPSL

One of the founding members of Women’s Professional Soccer, the Chicago Red Stars have returned. The Red Stars, who suspended operations in late 2010 and are not in WPS this season, will play in the Women’s Premier Soccer League in 2011. Their goal is to rejoin WPS as early as 2012. (more…)


Boston Aztec U23′s roster released, New England Mutiny announce home schedule

Boston Aztec U23 of the Women’s Premier Soccer League announced its 2011 roster. Last year’s team lost to eventual WPSL champion Boston Aztec Breakers Reserves, 2-1, in overtime in the playoffs. Meanwhile, the New England Mutiny, released their home schedule. Both teams play in the WPSL East-Northeast Division. (more…)


The 2010 WPSL National Champion Boston Aztec Breakers Reserves announce signings

The Boston Aztec Breakers Reserves announced today a number of preliminary signings, including West Virginia star forward Megan Mischler, who was the first player to commit to the 2010 Women’s Premier Soccer League National Champions. A Second Team All-Big East Conference selection in 2010, her senior year with the Mountaineers, Mischler scored seven goals and two assists (16 points) for the Big East champions. Joining Mischler in Boston will be Carson Laderoute, Gayle Kutzmann, Emmi Doniak, Chelsea Aberson, Alane Izu, Jordan Bishop, and Heather Fuller. (more…)


Two more WPSL players earn recognition from Gatorade

Sarah Killion and Riley Houle, who both played in the Women’s Premier Soccer League last summer, have been named Gatorade High School Players of the Year for their respective states. Killion, from Indiana, played eight games for Fort Wayne F.C. in 2010, and helped lead the team to the Midwest Conference playoffs. The Bishop Dwenger High School midfielder will play for UCLA in the fall. Houle played for the New England Mutiny last summer. The midfielder from Windham High School in Connecticut committed to play at the University of Connecticut in 2011. Houle played for the U.S. U-17 team that went to the Algarve Cup in 2009.


WPSL’s New York Athletic Club keeper Tatiana Saunders earns honor from Gatorade

Gatorade recently unveiled its state players of the year for girls’ soccer, and Tatiana Saunders, who played in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) for New York Athletic Club, was named the New York High School Gatorade Player of the Year. The national Gatorade Player of the Year will be announced May 23. (more…)


WPSL’s Sunshine Conference adds two teams

Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) announced Wednesday afternoon that two new teams will join the Sunshine Conference. Jacksonville and Tampa Bay enter the now seven-team conference. The Sunshine Conference is also comprised of FSA Freedom (last year’s conference champions), Brandon F.C, the Miami Kickers F.C., Palm Beach United, and the South Florida Strikers. (more…)


Alex Singer heading to Dalsjöfors after Australian W-League season

Alex Singer, a defender for Perth Glory of the Westfield W-League in Australia, is off to Sweden after the W-League season. She will play for Dalsjöfors of Damallsvenskan. Singer previously played in Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) for the Washington Freedom where she made 20 appearances (13 starts) in two seasons. (more…)
