Morgan Brian named Gatorade Player of the Year
Morgan Brian of Frederica Academy in Georgia, who also plays club for Ponte Vedra Soccer Club in Jacksonville, Florida, was named as the 2011 Gatorade Player of the Year. The 18-year-old midfielder was a member of the U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team and took part in her first U-20 USWNT camp in January. Top 20 high school players in nation have all committed to Division 1 colleges
The 20 best players in the nation, ranked by TopDrawerSoccer.com, have all fully committed to playing at some of the top Division 1 programs in the U.S. The number one recruit, Ponte Vedra’s Morgan Brian, who has been called into the U-20 U.S. Women’s National Team camp twice this year, will go to the University of Virginia. Eight players are headed to the Pac-10 and five will join the Atlantic Coast Conference. (more…)
U.S. U-20s beat Norway on final day of Ten Nations Tournament
The U.S. U-20 Women’s National team finished the Ten Nations Tournament today in La Manga, Spain by beating Norway, 2-0. Duke’s Kelly Cobb and Solar SC forward Taylor Smith scored for the U.S.
The nation’s number one recruit, Morgan Brian, who’s heading to the University of Virginia in the fall, assisted on Cobb’s goal. Taylor’s goal was assisted by Cobb. Abby Smith (Dallas Texans) and Stanford’s Emily Oliver each played one half in goal. The U.S. finished the tournament with one win and two scoreless draws, one against England and the other against Sweden in a 45-minute game that was called off at halftime due to thunder and lightning.
U.S. U20s heading to Spain for tournament in La Manga
Following a training camp that ran through Feb. 20 in Chula Vista, Calif., the U.S. U-20 Women’s National Team will head to Spain to play in La Manga against U-20 teams from Norway, Sweden, and England. The four-team tournament runs from March 4-March 8. (more…)
U.S. U-20s training in California with 10 new players
U.S. U-20 National Team Coach Dave Chesler has called his second camp since taking over for Jill Ellis last month. His first camp with the U.S. U-20 team took place in mid-January, and this latest camp started Sunday in Chula Vista, Calif., and runs through Feb. 20. This group has 10 different players than the squad picked for January’s camp. (more…)
