Germany News: VfL Wolfsburg to add Lena Goessling

VfL Wolfsburg and 1.FFC Frankfurt dominate the offseason moves in German Bundesliga. Wolfsburg adds another spectacular move and is about to buy National Team player Lena Goessling out of her contract with SC Bad Neuenahr. The North Germans offered the defensive mid a three-year contract. The move can be seen under the background that Wolfsburg recently added Mark-Oliver Stricker as assistant coach, Goessling’s former youth coach.

Germany announces preliminary World Cup roster

German National Team Coach Silvia Neid held a press conference today to announce her preliminary roster of 26 players. Neid is in the comfortable position to have a ten weeks preparation for the World Cup since the association DFB ended Bundesliga early. The clubs sending most players are 1.FFC Frankfurt and FCR Duisburg with seven each. Champion Turbine Potsdam has five players. Even relegation endangered 2. Bundesliga club Magdeburger FFC has one player, goalkeeper Almuth Schult, on the roster. Missing one the list are e.g. Bundesliga top striker Conny Pohlers, or Turbine Potsdam midfielders Jennifer Zietz and Viola Odebrecht, who all have been in excellent shape lately. In contrast to them, Duisburg defender Annike Krahn is on the list, who has not played a single game since her ACL injury in fall. (more…)


Germany: Turbine Potsdam wins third straight title

For the entire second half of the season, it was a close race between Potsdam and Frankfurt. Now on the final matchday, Turbine Potsdam needed a win against Essen to securely clinch the championship. 1.FFC Frankfurt did their part against Bayern Munich and took an early lead by Svenja Huth in the sixth minute, even added a second goal by American Gina Lewandowski, and profited from an own goal for a 3-0 lead after only 12 minutes.  But at that point, the championship was already decided. Potsdam converted the first two attacks in the third and fifth minutes for a 2-0 lead by Viola Odebrecht and Anja Mittag. (more…)


Germany: Cup Final complete

This weekend saw just little action in the highest German women’s soccer division. The focus was on the two national cup semifinals. As expected, 1.FFC Frankfurt defeated SC Bad Neuenahr, 3-1. With goals from Conny Pohlers and Sandra Smisek, the game was on track for Frankfurt even after a quarter hour. Kerstin Garefrekes added a third goal after 58 minutes before FFC had to face a minor shock – not Bad Neuenahr’s goal by Lena Goeßling (62nd) hit them, but the ejection against center back Saskia Bartusiak (foul as last player) who will now miss the cup final. Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC wins Internationales Frauen-Hallenfußball-Turnier um den Pokal der Sparkasse Bielefeld

Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC won the Internationales Frauen-Hallenfußball-Turnier um den Pokal der Sparkasse Bielefeld over the weekend. The international indoor tournament held in Bielefeld, Germany featured seven teams from four countries, and Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC defeated FCR Duisburg  of Germany, 5-0, in the deciding match.
